Aside from being the City of Light, Paris is also a city of dance, music and great nightlife. Taverns, bars, dance clubs and lounges are waiting for you to come and feel their vibe and relax in their unique atmosphere. Some of them are placed on boats, some on tops of the buildings and some even in the old Turkish bathhouses. Actually, the main strength of nightlife in Paris is its diversity. It has been mostly made such by the foreign people living in Paris, bringing their influences to the city. You can discover lots of many different sounds here, from Algerian and African music to the sounds of the Orient and the Caribbean.
Hip hop is popular but you will not hear much of it in the bars and clubs as the Mediterranean music is mixed with techno and house mostly. Jazz lovers will find lots of clubs and lounges to suit their needs as Paris houses many clubs with lots of different jazz styles. Cabarets are a must see for absolutely everyone and you can find lots of them in the Pigalle (world famous Moulin Rouge is there) and some of them (i.e. famous Crazy Horse) are near the Champs-Élysées. As for the night clubs and dance clubs, you must keep in mind that when you are trying to get in you must be dressed to impress as the better image will improve your chances to pass through the random decisions of bouncers on the doors.
Also you should have more or less equivalent male/female ratio if you want to get in (and you are a guy). Foiles Pigalle, and Rex Club are some of those you might want to try as they offer good electro music and lots of fun. Classical music is also very popular in Paris so you might consider going to an opera show or a concert when you are there (keep in mind that classical music is much more written about in the Parisian magazines than all blends of pop music together). There are also lots of standalone places that should be seen, like the Hemingway Bar (in the Ritz) where you should go and try to do a nice round of good old Parisian drinking before you go out and have some fun in some of the Paris’ amazing nightclubs and dance halls.
All in all, the diversity of this city offers something for everyone!
